MORE INFORMATION

Many know the benefits of Yoga. Also, many know the benefits of simply being in the presence of Horses. Here is something that most do not know: In 2008, HeartMath Institute published evidence proving the science behind why we feel good around horses. The study consistently showed that by simply being within 8-20 feet of a horses’ heart center for 5 minutes or longer the aura and electromagnetic field/energy that emanates from the horse will regulate all natural biorhythms (breath/oxygenation, heart rate variability, skin temperature, etc.) to normal. Additionally, tests were done to determine/confirm that in this same space cortisol levels are reduced, and oxytocin levels are increased. Imagine what could happen if this were combined with yoga?

These horses have been accustomed to working closely with humans in an enclosed space for nearly 13 years, in addition to the work they do with private therapy and professional coaching they have also served thousands of trauma survivors through their sister - company and nonprofit Spring Reins of Life which is a 501c3. They have served groups of trauma survivors under the same Eagala Model format (equine assisted growth and learning association). Since opening the charity these same horses (and donkeys) have helped more than 2,600 trauma survivors to find present moment, peace/calm, and to rebuild from PTSD to having personalized coping skills which navigate living a far more productive and healthy life. The core of the populations served have been Veterans, Teens, Women and Children dealing with moderate to severe trauma (combat PTS, survivors or rape, domestic violence, violent crime, human/sex trafficking and more). Our horses have won both statewide and national honor awards, been into the NJ Hall of Fame, had a flag flown over the US Capitol, are featured in books, and more!

MORE INFORMATION

Spring Rein of Hope's unique Herd consists of 4 award-winning therapy horses, a family of 3 donkeys, 1 self-appointed therapy cat, 3 borrowed goats, and apparently a rooster (who just showed up one day). To learn more about the background, awards, and accreditation of our 4-legged colleagues please visit NJ Virtual Herd .

Recent studies conducted by the Institute of HeartMath provide clues to explain the bio-directional "healing" that happens when we are near horses. According to researchers, the heart has a larger electromagnetic field and higher level of intelligence than the brain: A magnetometer can measure the heart's energy field radiating up to 8 to 10 feet around the human body. While this is certainly significant it is perhaps more impressive that the electromagnetic field projected by the horse's heart is five times larger than the human one (imagine a sphere-shaped field that surrounds you). The horse's electromagnetic field is also stronger than ours and can directly influence our own heart rhythm!

Horses are also likely to have what science has identified as a "coherent" heart rhythm (heart rate pattern) which explains why we may "feel better" when we are around them ~ studied have found that a coherent heart pattern or HRV is a robust measure of well-being and consistent with emotional states of calm and joy - that is, we exhibit such patterns when we feel positive emotions.

A coherent heart pattern is indicative of a system that can recover and adjust to stressful situations very efficiently. Often, we only need to be in a horse's presence to feel a sense of wellness and peace. In fact, research shows that people experience many physiological benefits while interacting with horses, including lowered blood pressure and heart rate, increased levels of beta-endorphins (neurotransmitters that serve as pain suppressors), decreased stress levels, reduced feelings of anger, hostility, tension and anxiety, improved social functioning, and increased feelings of empowerment, trust, patience and self-efficacy.

Our equines have worked with humans loose in an enclosed space for 13 years and are very accustomed to this model.

NJ VA Medal of Honor Ceremony
Veterans & Spring Thaw!

Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Hunt Cap Farms
401 Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ 08887
(Hunterdon/Somerset County)
WHAT:
Planetree Therapy Animal Medal of Honor Ceremony presented by NJ VA Healthcare System and Veterans of NJ to the only recipient in New Jersey – a Horse named Spring Thaw.  Nominated/awarded by NJ VA Veterans, Spring Thaw is the one of 15 recipients in the USA for 2017.

WHY:
This horse Spring served over 700 combat veterans from 2012 to 1/17/18. He was a gifted teacher and healer and shared his wisdoms of the heart in a unique way. On 1/20/18 this horse made his transition just shy of his 31st birthday. This award was decided without the knowledge of his passing. It will be presented to Spring’s Herd-mates posthumously paying respects and honor to all that he gave for United States Veterans.

WHO:
Spring Thaw dedicated the last 10 years of his life to helping humans with personal and professional development and to heal the wounds of trauma in the EAGALA Model EAP/L therapy arena. Spring Thaw shaped/ affected lives of thousands of humans during his colorful life. He will be missed deeply. Recognition such as this reminds us that Spring was not our horse, he was everyone's horse! He was our patriarch, our teacher and nicknamed “that JediHorse” for some of his keen techniques. Spring Thaw is our NJ state representation of service animals for veterans in 2017. Spring Thaw led CC to EAGALA in 2007 after retiring from Eventing in NJ. That story is told in the book "Horses with a Mission" (NWL 2008).

All Are Welcome in Honoring the Legacy of a Very Special Spotted Horse from New York City!

Run in Peace Great Friend!
